During all seasons of the year, I stay intuitive about my skin’s needs. “How does it look/feel today?” and adjust my routine accordingly. Several months ago, I wrote about my fall skincare routine. So I thought I would share about some changes for the warmer months:
🌞MORNING ROUTINE
1st Cleanse: Jojoba Oil — I only use 1-2 pumps for my entire face. Although oil cleansing may seem contradictory, our skin actually NEEDS oil to stay nourished and moisturized. A balance of oil - not too much or too little - is the important part. If the skin barrier is stripped of oil (due to a harsh cleanser or over-exfoliation), pores will actually start producing MORE oil to compensate. On the other hand, by using the proper kind of oil, it actually “tricks” your skin into producing LESS oil because it already contains an adequate amount.
[There are a variety of different types of oils - each with their own unique profile and rating on the comedogenic scale (i.e. how likely it can clog pores). I plan to write a post in the future to delve further into this topic!]
2nd Cleanse: Honey — My go-to cleanser for reasons such as being anti-inflammatory, moisturizing, and balancing the skin's pH.
Hydrating Mist: Heritage Store’s Rose Water — Recently I incorporated a hydrating mist into my routine. I was skeptical if it would make a difference, but it truly did! As I mentioned earlier, our skin barrier not only needs oil, but also needs WATER! A few sprays immediately after cleansing or showering prepares the skin to receive and retain necessary moisturizer in the proceeding step.
Daily Moisturizer + SPF: Dermalogica Sheer Tint SPF 20 — Wearing sunscreen every day is the most crucial step for skin health, but sadly one of the most forgotten. This summer I've tried several different tinted SPFs, but I currently enjoy the one listed above. Since I don’t wear much makeup, a tinted SPF gives me a little glow and nice coverage!
EVENING ROUTINE🌚
1st Cleanse: Jojoba Oil
2nd Cleanse: Eminence Mangosteen Daily Resurfacing Cleanser — Just a pea size is needed of this concentrated exfoliating cleanser. It contains lactic acid which is great for removing dead skin cells and achieving a radiant glow. I also love how refreshing and fruity (thanks to the mangosteen) this milky gel smells!
Evening Moisturizer/Serum: Pai Rosehip Bioregenerate Oil — This simple product contains rosehip fruit and seed oil which is packed with antioxidants, 4 types of omegas, and vitamin E. A couple drops goes a long way! I use it to quickly heal scars or blemishes before I go to bed.
What are some of your summer skincare staples?
